Wellington City water supply projects
Over 1,200km of water supply pipes serve Wellington city. Projects include reservoir and pump station upgrades, pipe renewals and repair work, all funded by rates and user charges.
Projects in progress

Fraser Avenue and Norwich Street, Johnsonville water main renewal.
Over 800 meters of pipe is being replaced in these two streets. The job is all but complete, with final reinstatement work under way.
Messines Road, Karori reservoir renewal
The first tank is now in service, supplying water to Karori. The second tank is being tested and new telemetry equipment installed. Contractors will begin on landscaping work shortly. Read more on the Messines Rd Reservoir Renewal here.
Carmichael Reservoir
Seismic strengthening work on Carmichael Reservoir is under way. Stronger columns have been installed and work on the roof is in progress. This project is expected to run until the end of June.
Mornington Road watermain renewals
Nearly a kilometer of new pipe is being installed along Mornington Road from Taft Street to Mills Road. This work is expected to take until the end of July to complete.
Queens Drive, Lyall Bay watermain upgrade
The existing rider main is being replaced with 400 metres of 150mm pipe, and 135 metres of 100mm pipe, to improve supply and fire-fighting capability. This job is expected to take until mid June to complete.
Maupuia and Miramar North pump station renewals
Two new pumps are being installed at each of these eastern suburb pump stations.
Upcoming work
Watermain renewals and upgrades are planned for Karori, Johnsonville, Tawa, and the city.
