Ensuring reliable supplies of good quality drinking water for now and the future is the aim of our water supply renewal programme. Projects under way include enlarging the main reservoirs serving Karori, and pipeline renewals to the northern suburbs.

Messines Road, Karori reservoir renewal

The existing reservoir at Messines Road, which serves much of Karori, has reached the end of its economic life.

Two new tanks are replacing the existing structures. They'll be bigger and stronger, to allow for population growth and provide extra resilience in case of earthquakes. 

The first tank is now in service, and the second tank has been completed and is undergoing testing. Once that's complete, pipework will be finished and reinstatement will get under way. This included landscaping and the development of some roadside parking.
